This is a question we are often asked. We have looked into it for you, because it was not entirely clear to us either, and in fact it still is not. We called the RDW and they told us to contact the Police. No sooner said than done. We emailed vraaghetdepolitie@politie.nl with the question:
"There is a lot of confusion about the legislation for car wrapping. Is it allowed to wrap cars/scooters in chrome? (mirror foil)
This is the answer we got from the Police
"This confusion is not only with you. I don't know if there is a provision in the traffic regulations stating that you may not paint or wrap your car in a reflective style. I can imagine that it might cause danger or nuisance to other road users because of the degree of light reflection (sun or other headlights). Obstructing other road users is an offence.
You can also go to the RDW with this question. If the colour of a vehicle changes then you must also report this to the RDW. They will approve or not a vehicle."
Something about a locker and a wall... All in all, it is still not clear what exactly the rules are.
Do you think chrome is dangerous or do you think it's cool and it's not that bad?
You can change the colour of your car on the RDW site.
